BETWEEN THE TWO EVENINGS "The Jews believed their were two evenings, the evening of the day, the evening of the night. See Num. 28:4, margin. The first evening began at noon. One writer, on the words "between the evenings," says 'we mean by this expression, the dark part of the day, after the noon hour.' "When the first evening began is thus expressed by the commentator Rashi, a great authority among Jewish writers: 'from the sixth hour [twelve o'clock, see next note] and upward is called, ba-an ha-ar-ba-yim, between the evenings; because the sun inclines toward his home, which he reaches at evening.' The thought evidently is, that the sun reaches its highest point at noon, begins to decline toward the west, in which direction it continues till sunset. "And he continues: 'And by the language, ba-an ha-ar-ba-yim, we also understand it to be the hours between the evening of the day, and the evening of the night. The evening of the day begins with the seventh hour [that is, immediately after twelve o'clock noon], and continues till the evening of the night. And the evening of the night begins at night, or sunset.'- Rashi's comment on Ex. 12:6. "From this we gather that one evening began at twelve, and the other began at six. The six hours between these two points being called between the evenings. But the word rendered "between" is of itself extremely significant. It would indicate that the lamb would be killed between the time of the first evening and the time of the second evening. What would be the hour between the first evening and the second evening? between twelve and six? The answer is three. And this was just the hour the Savior expired on the cross. He was crucified at the sixth hour, He died at the ninth. The Scripture was fulfilled. (YAHUSHUA the Messiah) was the paschal Lamb. Even Josephus mentions the fact that the paschal lambs were slain from the ninth to the eleventh hours; the time they began to kill them was three o'clock. See Josephus, 'Sixth Book of Jewish Wars;' chapter 6, paragraph 3." Practical Lessons by F.C. Gilbert p. 245, 246. One way to tell which part of the day is morning and which part of the day is evening, a sun dial may be used. When the shadow is on one side, its the morning. When the shadow goes to the other side it is the even, "at the going down of the sun." Deuteronomy 16:6. Notice it does not say, when the sun is set ! Adam Clarke also has an excellent commentary on Exodus 12:6. "In the evening beyn haarbayim, 'between the two evenings'. The Jews divided the day into morning and evening: till the sun passed the meridian all was morning or forenoon; after that, all was afternoon or evening. Their first evening began just after twelve o'clock, and continued till sunset; their second evening began at sunset and continued till night. "The day among the Jews had twelve hours, John xi. 9. Their first hour was about six o'clock in the morning with us. Their sixth hour was our noon. Their ninth hour answered to our three o'clock in the afternoon." Clarke's Commentary "About the sixth hour : and he saith unto the Jews, behold your King." John 19:14 "And about the ninth hour YAHUSHUA cried with a loud voice, saying Eli, Eli, lama sabach-thani?" "YAHUSHUA, when He cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the spirit." Matthew 27:46, 50 YAHUSHUA was the Passover Lamb who had fulfilled all of its types. By His death happening at three o'clock, should establish in our minds the timing of Exodus 12:6 margin. "And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it between the two evenings." "YAHUSHUA saith ... I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." The TRUTH John 14:6 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." John 3:19 "Elohim divided the light from the darkness." Genesis 1:5 (See also 2 Corinthians 6:16,17; ) We are living in the hour when we should know what TRUTH is. Many fancy articles have been written trying to tear apart the Scriptures; to establish false theories. Many at the present day ask as Pilate, "What is truth?" John 18:38. For they still do not know ! Can you prove what you believe from your Bible? Or, do you have to go to another reference to prove what you think is true? Or is your idea subject to any reference at all. (Save your own mind-Rom.8:7), YAHUSHUA said, "Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth." John 17:17 "Thy law is the truth." Psalm 119:142 "Error is never harmless. It never sanctifies, but always brings confusion and dissension. It is always dangerous . The enemy has great power over minds that are not thoroughly fortified by prayer and established in Bible truth." 5 Testimonies p. 292 "Thy word is true from the beginning." Psalm 119:160 May the blessings of truth be with you at this time.
