The Person of Proverbs 8

Historically Proverbs 8 was applied to the Son [YAHUSHUA] by Eusebius and others.  But at least they did understand that a person was involved in this chapter!

Proverbs 8 is talking about YAHUSHUA in one sense, because it is talking about His representative the Holy Spirit, which speaks and acts on His behalf.  But it is an insult to YAHUSHUA that He should be referred as "She" and  "her".  The Saviour is 100o/o  male, and is not to be confused with androgyny or hermaphrodite, as this is what Satan is.

The language of Proverbs 8 is feminine, as easily proven from the Hebrew, but also by comparing Scripture with Scripture. Let's compare a few easy passages.

"Wisdom is better than rubies." Proverbs 8:11.  Compare with Proverbs 3:15, "She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared to her."  And compare this with Proverbs 31:10, "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."

"For whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of YAHUWAH." Proverbs 8:35.  Compare this with Proverbs 18:22, "Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of YAHUWAH."

"YAHUWAH possessed Me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old." Proverbs 8:22.  Compare this to Ecclesiasticus 36:24, "He that getteth a wife, beginneth a possession, a help like unto himself, and a pillar of rest."

"I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him." Proverbs 8:30.  Compare this to Genesis 2:18 margin, "And YAHUWAH Elohim said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help as before him."

Its not just Proverbs 8 but Proverbs 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9.  And the author of Proverbs 8 is the same author as the Wisdom of Solomon in the Apocrypha.

"I saw that the Apocrypha was the hidden book, and that the wise of these last days should understand it." Manuscript Releases Vol. 15 p. 66

Consider some passages from the Wisdom of Solomon and  Ecclesiasticus.

"For into a malicious soul wisdom shall not enter: nor dwell in the body that is subject unto sin.  For the Holy Spirit of discipline will flee deceit, and remove from thoughts that are without understanding: and will not abide when unrighteousness cometh in.  For Wisdom is a loving Spirit: and will not acquit a blasphemer of his words: for Elohim is witness of his reins, and a true beholder of his heart, and a hearer of his tongue.  For the Spirit of YAHUWAH filleth the world." Wisdom of Solomon 1:4-7

"For she is the breath of the power of El, and a pure influence flowing from the glory of the Almighty: therefore can no undefiled thing fall into her.  For she is the brightness of the everlasting light: the unspotted mirror of the power of El, and the Image of His goodness.  And being but one she can do all things: and remaining in her self, she maketh all things new: and in all ages entering into holy souls, she

maketh them friends of El, and Prophets.  For El loveth none but him, that dwelleth with wisdom.  For she is more beautiful than the sun, and above all the order of stars, being compared with the light, she is found before it.  For after this cometh night: but vice shall not prevail against wisdom.

"Wisdom reacheth from one end to another mightily: and sweetly doth she order all things.  I loved her and sought her out, from my youth I desired to make her my spouse, and I was a lover of her beauty.  In that she was conversant with El, she magnifieth her nobility: yea, the Master of all things himself loveth her.  For she is privy to the mysteries of the knowledge of El, and a lover of His works.  If a man desire much experience: she knoweth things of old, and conjectureth aright what is to come: she knoweth the subtleties of speeches, and can expound dark sentences:  she foreseeth signs and wonders, and events of seasons and times.  Therefore I purposed to take her to me to live with me, knowing that she would be a counselor of good things, and a comfort in cares and grief.  Now when I considered these things in myself, and pondered them in my heart, how that to be allied unto Wisdom, is immortality.  Nevertheless when I perceived that I could not otherwise obtain her, except Elohim gave her me (and that was a point of wisdom also to know whose gift she was) I prayed unto YAHUWAH, and besought Him, and with my whole heart I said: . . . O send her out of thy holy heavens, and from the throne of thy glory, that being present she may labor with me, that I may know what is pleasant unto thee.  And thy counsel who hath known, except thou give wisdom, and send thy Holy Spirit from above."  Wisdom of Solomon 7:25-8:1-9, 17, 21, 9:10, 17

"She entered into the soul of the servant of YAHUWAH, and withstood dreadful kings in wonders and signs, . . . brought them through the red sea, and led them through much water but she drowned their enemies, and cast them up out of the bottom of the deep." Wisdom of Solomon 10:16, 18, 19

It is true that YAHUSHUA was in the cloudy pillar (Ex. 14:19) that led the children of Israel out of Egypt, but who separated the red sea and took off the chariot wheels?

"Who so giveth ear unto her, shall judge the nations, and he that attendeth unto her, shall dwell securely.  If a man commit himself unto her, he shall inherit her, and his generation shall hold her in possession.  For at the first she will walk with him by crooked ways, and bring fear and dread upon him, and torment him with her discipline, until she may trust his soul, and try him by her laws.  Then will she return the straight way unto him, and comfort him, and shew him her secrets.  But if he go wrong, she will forsake him, and give him over to his ruin." Eccles. 4:15-19

"Wisdom shall praise herself (compare Proverbs 31:31), and shall glory in the midst of her people.  I came out of the mouth of the most High, and covered the earth as a cloud.  My throne is in a cloudy pillar.  I alone compassed the circuit of heaven, and walked in the bottom of the deep.  He created (a marginal note to Prov. 8:23) Me from the beginning before the world, and I shall never fail.  In the holy Tabernacle I served before Him: and so was established in Zion.  As the Vine brought I forth pleasant savour, and my flowers are the fruit of honor and riches.  I am the mother of fair love, and fear, and knowledge, and holy hope, I therefore being eternal, am given to all my children which are named of Him." Ecclesiasticus 34:1, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 17, 18.

And there is so much more, but these are a few brief passages to make the point that the person of Proverbs 8 is the same person referred to in the Wisdom of Solomon and Ecclesiasticus.  YAHUSHUA is not a mother, and it is an insult to refer to Him as feminine.

Ellen White said concerning this subject, "It is not essential for us to be able to define just what the the Holy Spirit is. . . .The nature of the Holy Spirit is a mystery.  Regarding such mysteries, which are too deep for human understanding, silence is golden." Acts of the Apostles p. 51, 52.
